Creating a Community Education Revolution in Memphis

Who We Are

Welcome to SONU — a non-profit strategic management firm committed to transforming communities through data, technology, and purpose-driven action. We’re on a mission to restore faith, knowledge, and opportunity across Memphis by focusing on what our people need most.

Join us in eliminating voter apathy, rebuilding families, increasing Black homeownership, and redefining community leadership.

Memphis: Ground Zero for Liberation

Raise Memphis’s American Lung Association ‘State of the Air’ rating from an F to an A—transforming the city’s air quality to protect public health and environmental justice.

Why It Must Be Now

The clock is ticking on our people. Since January, we’ve seen a coordinated national effort to reverse decades of Black progress:

  •  Efforts to erase Black history from schools
  • Rollbacks of affirmative action
  • New voter suppression laws targeting Black districts
  • Environmental deregulation in Black-majority neighborhoods
  • A rise in white supremacist ideology and public acceptance of racist rhetoric
  • Accelerated gentrification and economic pressures aimed at displacing Black families from Memphis

These aren’t isolated events—they are the signs of a system reasserting itself. If we do not act now, the last strongholds of Black autonomy will be erased. The opportunity to build the world our ancestors dreamed of is closing. SONU exists to hold the line—and to push it forward.

Why It Must Start in Memphis

Memphis is the last majority-Black major city in America. It is sacred ground, soaked in the blood of martyrs like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who gave his life here fighting for justice. Today, it remains under siege—through systemic disinvestment, targeted displacement, and engineered economic hardship. Yet, its people remain resilient.

We choose Memphis because if we can transform Memphis, we can prove our model works anywhere. It is the spiritual and strategic epicenter of the Black freedom struggle. It is the city that will birth the nation.

The Five Initial SONU Targets

Our movement has five immediate, measurable goals to prove what coordinated Black power can accomplish:

  • Become the #1 city in safety
  • Become the #1 city in Black homeownership percentage
  • Become the #1 city in Black marriage rates
  • Achieve the #1 literacy rate in the country for third graders
  • Improve our air quality grade from an F to an A

These are not abstract dreams—they are the foundation of a new reality. These five goals will become SONU’s initial blueprint for city-level transformation.
